Lots of companies label their packaging as “compostable” because it’s made from PLA (plant-based polymer), aka vegetable starch.
We’ve been fooled by this in our home, only to find out that these are NOT really compostable because they only break down in industrial composting systems (not in home-composting). Plus, most countries don’t accept PLA packaging in their food or garden waste collections, so this so-called “compostable” packaging goes to landfill where it does not break down. Just like plastic.
We’ve worked very hard to make sure that every bit of our packaging is plastic-free, PLA/veg starch-free, recyclable and biodegradable. With the exception of our stickers, it can all be home composted. Note: Most commercial food waste collections don’t accept paper, but you can check with your local collector.

The label: Uncoated Kraft paper with 100% vegetable-based inks. Coatings can make paper uncompostable. Plastic-Free | PLA-free | Recyclable | Biodegradable | Home Compostable
The size sticker: FSC® certified paper, not plastic or even “compostable” vegetable starch. It does use an adhesive on the back, so we are not sure whether it is compostable. Plastic-Free | PLA-free | Recyclable | Biodegradable
The greaseproof sleeve (to protect the wrap in transit): This paper is unsiliconised and FSC Certified. Plastic-Free | PLA-free | Recyclable | Biodegradable | Home Compostable
Paper tape (to affix the postage label): Natural rubber-based adhesive. Uncoated recyclable Kraft paper. Plastic-Free | PLA-free | Recyclable | Biodegradable | Home Compostable
